Do Mosquito Shield treatments control ticks?
Yes and no. It will help decrease the tick population but will not eliminate them. This is because, when we spray for mosquitoes, our spray pattern treats only the most frequently used areas around the house, not all the vegetation where ticks may live. Our goal is to treat as much vegetation as possible within the active areas, so the product will have something to adhere to. We will also spray any structure the product may adhere to, such as decks and sheds. During this process the product MAY come in contact with ticks within these areas and eliminate them. If you are having a problem with ticks, we recommend our tick control program.

Where do you spray for ticks?
We treat the turf around the home and 15-20 feet into the wood line. We concentrate on spraying the ground.

Is that all I have to do to protect my pets from ticks?
No, it's recommended that you have your pets treated with a tick treatment. This will help protect your pets if they wander from treated areas.

What about keeping myself or my kids protected from ticks?
You will be protected if you stay within the treated area. If you wander out of the treated area it's a good idea to wear long pants and, if possible, wear light colored clothes. If you are wearing shorts, it's recommended that you apply a repellant to your legs and shoes.

What product do you use for ticks?
We use a synthetic Pyrithrid, Bifenthrin, which is a different product than our mosquito control. We also offer an organic alternative.

What can cause your products to be non-effective or less effective?
Unfortunately, heavy or steady rain will dilute the product and make it less effective, but not completely ineffective. Also, if you have a heavy population of mosquitoes and you purchase a package designed for a lesser population.

What happens if it rains?
Our product contains an adhesive that helps protect it from diluting in normal rainy conditions. We need only two hours to give this product time to dry. if we treat your property and it rains within that two-hour window, we will re-treat at no cost. While there will always be risk when dealing with the weather, Mosquito Shield feels this risk far outweighs the risk of contracting EEE or the West Nile virus! Please understand that the product does not dilute and break down easily; it takes a heavy or steady rain to affect the adhesive properties of our applications thanks to the waxy protectant they contain.

Will I receive a credit or refund if it rains?
No. Mother Nature is beyond anyone's control and we cannot offer that kind of guarantee. However, we will not treat if rain is expected within a two-hour window. And, we will re-treat if there is a steady or heavy rain less then 2 hours after a treatment.

What is the best program to go with?
It really depends on your mosquito population, tolerance, and how active you are outdoors. Keep in mind you may change your package at any time. We never—and I mean never—get complaints from customers that are on a bi-weekly program. We have a 97% customer retention rate regardless of which package they've selected. You may get one or two bites if you are on our Family Plan, but if you apply a mild repellant, you should be very comfortable. Again, it depends on your population, and every yard in every town is different.

Is there anything else I should do to control mosquitoes?
Beside the basics—like preventing standing water or removing your mosquito device if you have one—we recommend that you apply a mild repellant, like Skintastic (or even a natural repellant); anything that has a small percentage of DEET. How does it work?
We use different products within our treatments. One is designed to kill mosquitoes on contact; another will repel mosquitoes; and a third product acts as a masking agent that deters mosquitos from being attracted to your property.

Can I buy your product at a retail store?
No. It was designed by the owner and is not available in stores. It contains natural plant extracts, oils, garlic and the synthetic Pyrithrid Sumrithrin, and was carefully developed over a five-year period. One of many reasons it works so well is the way it is applied: we use specially-developed application equipment that alone took three years to perfect.
